STRUCTURE OF THE RESEARCH LITERATURE REVIEW PORTION:
A) TITLE
Your title should be concise and informative and it should capture the essence of what the project is about. (It is sometimes helpful to break the title into 2 parts. The first part refers to the issue(s) under investigation; the second part locates the study. e.g. ” Fractured Shale, Divided Communities: The Debate Over Hydrofracking in New York State” or “Ongoing Issues Concerning Gender and Culture: Recent Debates on Gender Neutral Washrooms on Canadian University Campuses”.
B) TOPIC STATEMENT Should include:
➢ a brief introduction to the research topic (narrowed down from the topics listed on the overview) that you intend to investigate and report upon, (i.e. it should present a concise description of the nature of the topic to be investigated and it should be grounded in one ethnographic area, a particular culture. If the research question relates to global areas of research the topic should still be grounded within a specific ethnographic area or set of areas.
C) LITERATURE REVIEW:
Identify and discuss scholarly literature relevant to your topic. Should include:
➢ a brief overview and critical discussion of several key sources that you have identified and that you would draw upon if you were going to write a research paper. Keep in mind you need to review a total of 10 references in your submission which includes a written portion and an audio portion.
➢ briefly indicate how each source will be of value to you in writing your proposed essay/research project. The key here is to have a clear research question, anthropologically grounded, that you intend to answer. Each source needs to speak to this research question in some important way. Be sure to include the title, author, and date of publication for each of your sources. This information should be integrated into the opening paragraph of each of your reviews. It should not stand alone as a heading.
D) BIBLIOGRAPHY
➢ Include all the references that you used in the literature review and audio review for a total of 10 bibliographic entries.
