My final project will be on “How various religions view particular social groups, such as women or the poor.”
Final topic requirements
In this course you will complete a final project that requires you to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate concepts you have learned in this course in a final paper of at least 11 – 12 pages . You will choose your own topic for this paper (a topic that is of interest to you) and propose your topic to your mentor by the end of Module 7. It is important to obtain approval for your choice before you begin.
A wide range of topics are available to you. For example, you might explore:
The ways different religious traditions view the concept of God or changes in the way particular religions have viewed the concept of God over time.
How various religions view particular social groups, such as women or the poor.
The variety of religious expression in literature.
The historicity of world religions and their common themes in regard to doctrine, ritual, and philosophy.
You are encouraged to come up with an idea of your own. If you are having trouble coming up with a topic, however, contact your mentor for additional suggestions.
While you are asked to come up with your own topic focus, it should meet the following content criteria:
Your paper should discuss at least two of the traditions discussed, possibly referring to more.
Your paper should discuss at least four (again, preferably more) of Smart’s six dimensions of religion (doctrinal, mythic, ethical, ritual, experiential, social)
Your paper should acknowledge at least two (more are preferred) of the world views discussed in Smart, chapter 2.
Your paper should bring your own personal views and experiences into the discussion.
The list just given provides content criteria; the following list provides additional requirements for your paper:
Your paper should be 11 -12 pages at least
You should consult at least at least 3 reputable outside sources, not including the required materials for this course.
All sources should be properly cited and referenced.
Your final assessment should be well developed and convey your understanding of the readings and concepts. It should also adequately cover the topic you have chosen.
Your paper should be organized, coherent, and unified; it should also be free of spelling and grammatical errors.
