In Unit 9,  you are utilizing the previous information gathered regarding influences of the family, school, and community system. You must choose one current youth behavior problem of local interest to research and recommend a leadership and advocacy plan. You are to explain the origins and causes of the problem issue incorporating the various participating systems, propose prevention strategies that address each component of the particular risk issue, align with pertinent ethical and legal factors, and then recommend a leadership and advocacy plan that incorporates prevention strategies while advocating for struggling youth. Continue to integrate the information from your course texts and other course readings to create a final paper discussing the biological, social, and cultural factors that influence the youth of today.
This is the last assignment of three toward your project. The project is due at the end of Unit 9. In this paper, incorporate your previous work by adding on to the corrected revisions from the Unit 7 assignment as a core for this final paper. Refer to the course project description for the details of the entire project and the grading requirements.
Complete the following for this assignment:
Choose a current issue (teen pregnancy, high school dropouts, substance abuse, et cetera) that impacts the youth in your area and provide a brief (1-page), research-based summary of the issue.
Include any statistics and data available. For example, “Teen pregnancy is 20 percent nationally. In this community of Des Moines, Iowa, it is 33 percent according to the Department of Social Services.”
Include research from local or national agencies (or both) and government entities that discusses why the issue you chose is a problem: For example, “We have an inadequate sexual education program within the schools and community, which likely impacts the teen pregnancy rate.”
Evaluate how the biological, social, and cultural factors you discussed in the Unit 5 and Unit 7 assignments impact the issue you have chosen.
Evaluate these conditions and how they can be addressed by the various participating systems (family, school, community).
Propose research-based strategies that incorporate a variety of resources to meet the needs of youth impacted by this issue.
Include methods to prevent the issue (for example, better sexual education programs within the schools, parenting classes to educate parents of teens on this issue, more resources within the community, et cetera).
Discuss any diversity and multicultural considerations. For example, you may find that a certain ethnicity or cultural group has a higher rate of teen pregnancy. What interventions would best meet the needs of diverse youth and prevent this issue?
Assess the ethical and legal (including your own state laws) factors impacting the situation you chose.
Propose a plan for how you will proceed to eliminate the issue or reduce the risk in both an ethical and legal manner.
Recommend how you, as an advocate and leader in the human behavior field, will advocate for youth impacted by this issue and incorporate prevention strategies.
Explain your leadership style and consider how you would lead your organization concerning this issue.
Explain how you would connect with certain key agencies or government bureaus.
