I want to the thesis to about this topic, but i need to specify my research question more. The text underneath is just for inspiration on the topic, i am open for suggestions on the problem area. Must be a professor with psychology background. Introduction The aim of the study is to investigate what empirical research says about resilience in children raised in families with alcohol abuse, in addition to gaining knowledge of the extent and severity that the children of alcoholic parents are exposed to, is put in focus. The national institute of public health in Norway estimates that approximately 90,000 children are living with parents that are abusing alcohol, in addition to the fact that there also are unreported cases (Folkehelseinstituttet, 2012). The concept resilience is currently much researched, but not as much when it comes to children of alcoholic parents. Resilience in this group is not as widely studied compared to other risk groups (Carle & Chassin, 2004). The term resilience will be used as a theory by examining the empirical evidence about this phenomenon. Literature study is chosen as a method to help give increased knowledge based on what we know today and provide new insight. Knowledge about why some children do well despite growing up in a chaotic home with alcoholism can help develop a broader understanding about intervention and treatment options. This can furthermore contribute to good mental health (Carl & Chassin, 2004). By increasing the knowledge, we have about this vulnerable group we can contribute to help that can further influence both politics and services for children. In light of the above following research question and sub-questions is presented: • What risks and protective factors occur in children growing up in families with alcohol abuse? The findings will be discussed in light of regulation theory and attachment theory as a way to understand resilience in children growing up with alcohol abuse.
